Austin Elementary is one of seven elementary schools located within Weatherford ISD. The school mascot is a Kangaroo and the school colors are blue and white- the same within the district. Our campus was built in 1988 serving over 600 students. We were a Texas Education Agency "Recognized" Campus between 1999 thru 2008, a Texas Education Agency "Exemplary" Campus in 2010 and a Texas Education Agency "Recognized" Campus in 2011. In 2017 our campus converted to a K-5 campus.
It is our goal that all students feel valued as they move through their K-5 learning journey. We build relationships with students and families and recreate the family atmosphere to carry over at school. We extend learning outside the four walls of our classrooms by connecting with others globally. We reflect on these learning connections and show evidence of learning through our E-portfolios. Each classroom implements a PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act), a Baldrige technique, to monitor their learning progress on the key learning ideas of each grade level. The PDSA allows students to take ownership of their learning which creates a synergy to bring success for the entire classroom. When students are allowed voice it moves the classroom forward. Our students reflect and blog about their experiences through MakerSpace and Genius Hour activities.
